What do we offer

The Point is a low level building ideally suited for wheelchair users and others with any kind of physical disability. All our facilities, from the car park to the centre gym, have been designed specifically for use by our members who have a wide range of physical disabilities.

The centre’s gym

Over the past year the centre has been enlarged and extensively refurbished. A new gymnasium has been built where members can exercise under the supervision of the staff. The communal areas of the centre have been extended to include a TV area, several comfortable social areas where members can meet in informal groups, take part in the many activities the centre offers or just read quietly as they wish.

Outside there is now a patio area where members can sit and enjoy the garden and perhaps enjoy the barbeques that occur from time to time in the fine weather. There is also a kitchen that is used by members and staff (just in case it rains!).

Computer room

There is a computer room with full internet access together with all the additional hardware required by the users. All members are free to use the facility at any time.

We also have a quiet room which can be used for privacy It is often employed by members and their families for meetings and reviews with Scope’s own staff or social workers. Many members use this facility when they are interviewing potential carers, enjoying the additional security being at The Point affords.

Facilities are adapted to cope with a variation of disabilities

The toilet facilities in the centre are adapted to cope with a variation of disabilities, from high dependency to the need for the standard disabled toilet. All the toilets are wheelchair friendly and have easily managed folding doors.

The largest toilet room incorporates a hoist, waist height changing facility, a closamatic toilet and shower. There is also a hair dryer for members’ use.
